Where Africa’s cargo meets the world
Across southern Africa, importers and exporters count on us to keep their cargo moving. Perfectly positioned as a gateway between sub-Saharan Africa and the world, Maputo Port and our strategically situated terminals connects key trade corridors to the world.
Making an impact in Africa
We are invested in unlocking Africa's abundance, and it shows in our stake in Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC), alongside our partners, the Ports and Railway Company of Mozambique, Dubai Ports World and Mozambique Gestores SARL. MPDC holds the port concession and is responsible for financing, building, rehabilitating, operating and maintaining the port in line with its development plan. Maputo port is a gateway to the sub-Saharan region and the closest port to the Gauteng industrial hub and the Limpopo and Mpumalanga mining regions.
MAPUTO PORT, MOZAMBIQUE
We upgraded the port and its infrastructure to last beyond the concession period and support the country's growth for years to come. The work included dredging the access channel, new equipment, refurbished berths and landside facilities. Port activity has grown substantially from the 5 million tonnes handled at the start of the concession in 2003.
Maputo port handles minerals, grains, sugar, vehicles, bulk liquid containers and general cargo. It is a transit port: 80% of the cargo it handles arrives by road and rail from neighbouring countries, including South Africa and Zimbabwe.
